ICT Staff Focus

Daryl OlinDaryl Olin, Computer Consultant

  1. How long have you been with the ICT Department?
    3 Months.
  2. What do you do for ICT?
As part of the Ops group at ICT, Mike Cavallaro and myself are the first line of support. My time is split between a few responsibilities. I manage access to and installation of Maxwell resources such as files, software, printers, etc. A big part of our responsibility is maintaining the hardware in Maxwell and replacing old hardware when it’s at the end of its life cycle, so that is a constant rolling process. Lastly, I respond to any technical problems or issues in the Maxwell community and work with users to resolve issues or answer questions.
  3. What is the weirdest thing you have ever encountered on a job?
I was asked by a faculty member to help convert a manual on torture to a different format. Not the usual stuff, but I assume they do not use this on students lol…
  4. Is there anything you would like to share with the Maxwell community about yourself – something they might be surprised to know about you?
I have a real passion for the social sciences.  When I was in school, many of these types of classes were my favorite, particularly Sociology and Political Science. I had incredible professors for these classes so that always helps. These were formative experiences for me and they changed my view of the world forever. I read journal articles and publications on these topics to this day.
