Style is defined as a series of text formatting that can be applied quickly to paragraphs and characters – it is a specially packaged set of formats that are applied all at one time. You can use built-in styles that come with Word to format your document, or you can create your own unique set of styles. You decide whether the styles you create will remain in the current document you are working on, or whether they should be available every time you create a new document.  Also, by using styles, a document becomes easier to navigate for people with disabilities when using an assistive technology tool, such as a screen reader.

Using styles can save you a lot of time as you type a document because all it takes is the click of your mouse to apply multiple formats at once. For example, you can create a style that automatically applies Bold, 12 point font size, and blue font color with one click on the style name. Also, if you have applied a style throughout your document, and then decide to make a change to the formatting (maybe you want to use black font color instead of blue), the whole document will be updated with one change to the style.

In this training session, you will learn how to use Word’s built-in styles, as well as create your own unique headings. We will talk about the difference between a character style and a paragraph style, and also create a style set that you can switch to anytime you use Word. Please join us to learn more!
