Faculty Focus – Jun Li

Name?

Jun Li

Title?

Assistant Professor

How long have you been at the Maxwell School?

Just finished my first year!

What department do you work in?

Public Administration and International Affairs

How do you use technology in your research and/or teaching?

Most of my technology use is related to making research more efficient.  I typically use 100% Medicare administrative data, so the data files are large as they include health care use data for millions of individuals across a variety of health care settings.  Using advanced computing allows me to run statistical analyses faster, which is critical for productivity.  I have also recently started experimenting with web scraping to abstract data.  The web contains rich information and being able to take advantage of what it has to offer is very exciting to me.

What new technologies are you interested in using either in your teaching or for your personal use?

I am always seeking ways to make research more efficient.  Learning about computing technology available at Syracuse is on the top of my to-do list!  Additionally, even though we have already used Zoom during the pandemic, I would like to learn about other tools that would facilitate teaching and collaborations.

Many thanks to Assistant Professor Li for participating in the ICT Newsletter!
